Windows Search 4 preview
March 28, 2008
If you are a Windows Vista User, then you’d know how painfully it is slow to search files on your desktop. Seriously, I’ve been using Google Desktop search but that too been giving me headache most of the time due to some unresolved local DNS stuffs and sometimes, crooked Firewall setups. Really it’s so sluggish search system in Vista, I’ve to admit.

Windows Search 4 is the latest updates to Vista according to vista blog. It’s 33% faster, improved indexing, it even indexes web mails, bugs fixed blah blah blah. Searching has never been so easier before Window Search 4. It’s them saying, not me. I’ve gotta try it yet. Last time, I updated my system with SP1 on my vista and my system went berserk. My laptop didn’t connected to internet, it didn’t even detected my router. I dunno what went wrong but It’s for sure that everything happened after the updates. Evil updates. I tried everything to my knowledge to overcome but wasted many hours without satisfactory updates. Finally had to resort back with the system restore. At least I like system restore, it’s something which gets deleted files back to life, real resurrection .

So to the average Joe who’s not a geek, what is “Web 2.0″?

Free Access to websites without registration
March 12, 2008
You’re browsing the web and you click a link to an article on a site (let’s say nytimes.com) but instead of getting the article you get a screen asking you to login or register. Infuriated at the idea of pointlessly registering for yet another site, what you might do is reluctantly one more time. But WAIIIT. Not anymore now.

Youtube is Down
February 24, 2008
Since yesterday, I’m not able to see my own YouTube videos. The reason is unknown because, they didn’t specify any maintenance schedule either.
Actually, I was compelled to check my script if something went wrong or what but it’s confirmed to my knowledge that, YouTube is down.
Many Internet Gurus have been telling and warning since many years that this “Online Media Sharing” BOOM is not going to do any good because, that could be the reason one day, INTERNET would collapse. I don’t know how it’s going to do, but I’ve felt myself that this massive online media sharing like music streaming, video streaming, VOIP, downloads, torrents, etc.. vigorously hampering the performance of internet backbone. There is voice that billions of dollars are to be invested to re-structure how Internet was built. Have their voices gone unheard? Is this the beginning of Internet Collapse, is YouTube not showing up the symptom for that?

Microsoft wants Yahoo at any cost
February 21, 2008

After the denial of offer placed by Microsoft to acquire Yahoo for some $41 dollar along with Microsoft’s own share and stocks, things are getting pretty hard for both sides. Microsoft’s appeal has been declined which made Microsoft think different way. We all know Microsoft,Money and Monopoly, they’re somewhat synonym to each other. Microsoft has money power and it’s using this power.
Yahoo think they’ve been undervalued, whereas, Microsoft think the offer was reasonable. If you ask me, I think Microsoft’s offer was appropriate for Yahoo. There is nothing wrong with the acquisition offer, after all, it’s $41 billion. The main objective of Microsoft is to get some stand in the search engine business. That’s not possible unless there are lots of fishes in the same pond. Microsoft can’t think of gulping Google, because, Google is as huge as whale and to leap forward, Microsoft has to start with other contending fishes. By the way, this is just my mere analogy and that’s how I’m seeing the present scenario between these companies.

Wordpress.com survives DoS attack
February 19, 2008
My old blog http://infotechnepal.wordpress.com had some minor issues and I found it’s having some sort of problem. My regular password failed me. I didn’t care much and this evening, the official news confirmed that the wordpress.com server was hit by DoS(denial-of-service) attack. DoS is a sort of attack when purposely sudden increase in abnormal traffic happens, the only reason being to collapse the website or slow it down or to make it inaccessible.
According to Matt of wordpress.com, 6 Gigabits of sudden incoming traffic made some blogs inaccessible for definite period of time.

Xabbel.org - The charitable search engine
February 13, 2008
Few days back, I met Rasna on Stumbleupon.com. I got a brief chance to chat with her through Stumbleupon. Actually, she had her website like www.xabbel.org and as an instinct of stumbler I checked her site. I found it was some sort of search engine in the market and as I was checking it’s content, I felt I should write about it. Xabbel.org is not an ordinary search engine. It’s a search engine whose main objective is to donate it’s 100% revenue to those organizations who work on behalf of poor or needy people and society. Rasna told me she works for this non-profit company in Kathmandu.
