Firefox upgrading/updating in Windows Vista
February 10, 2008
Even though I hated firefox before, I’m loving it truly these days. Firefox got it’s recent version released which was 2.0.0.12 and being cautious in nature, I tried to update my old 2.0.0.11 Mozilla firefox to latest one. I was thinking it’s a one shot and I felt like it’s updated after giving approval to UAC pop-ups in Windows Vista and so.
After sometime, I came back, switched on the computer and what I saw is firefox asking me to upgrade again. I thought it was done but this time, I seriously cared what was really going on. It seemed everything went okie. But as soon as all the updates and downloads been done, it asked to restart the browser and when I clicked the restart, a message popped up letting me know that updates was not successful.
I was annoyed, gave all administrator privilege while running the firefox but all in vain.
I think this is the main issue with Vista. I’ve a desktop computer which runs XP and I actually updated Firefox first there and it was easy go. Same thought tricked me while trying to upgrade Firefox in Vista.
What I did to resolve this issue??
I simply uninstalled firefox , downloaded recent one and installed it. Easy. All bookmarks, were intact. And, it was recent one
But before that, I did manage to backup all bookmarks, extensions using MozBackup, a good utility to save bookmarks/extensions of Firefox from time to time.
